Easy way to make curtains
It is possible to make easy and inexpensive curtains drapes. Simple curtains can be used for windows, doors, and open closets. A sense of satisfaction can be achieved by using ones sewing skills. For a simple curtain, a pattern is not needed.
The first step is to take accurate measurement of the window or door for which curtain is to be made. This should be done with a metal tape and written down. The second step is to choose fabric. The fabric stores have a wide range of fabrics in all price ranges, prints and colors. A proper estimation of amount of fabric should be made. Due to gathers, the width of curtain will be more than that of the window depending upon the amount of gathers and frills required. Seam allowance is to be added to the finished measurement. The length too will be increased by few inches say 4 or 6 inches.
The fabric should be preshrunk and ironed. The third step is to sew the curtain with a basic seam on a straight line. Hems should be pressed to as aid in sewing. If there are no finished selvages, first sew the side hem. Then the top part fold back and sew half an inch from the top edge. Then stitch about quarter inch from this fold. Then sew the bottom hem. There would be three lines of stitching two at the upper edge and one at the lower one.
