Michael Joseph Jackson is considered as the king of pop music. He was born on Aug. 29, 1958 in Gary, Indiana. His father’s name was Joseph Jackson and his mothers name was Katherine Jackson. Jackson’s father, Joseph Jackson earned a meager living working in a steel mill. Michael’s entire family members used to live in a tiny two bedroom house. Michael is the 7th of the 9 children. His brothers consist of Sigmund “Jackie”, Toriano “Tito”, Jermaine, Marlon, Steven “Randy” and his sisters are Rebbie, Janet and La-Toya Jackson.

In1964 five of the Jackson brothers, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael formed Jackson 5 with the R&B musical act. Michael was the lead singer of the group. In these early ears Jackson 5 played at local night clubs and bars though out the Midwest and they use to win competition at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York. In the year 1967, Jackson 5 signed their first recording contract with the local steel town label. This was followed by a regional hit with “Big Boy” in 1968.

It was the Bobby Taylor and the Vancouver’s who spotted the Jackson five and they then brought Label head Berry Gordy brought out the Jackson 5’s Steeltown contract and then Jackson 5 signed for Motown. After signing for Motown, the entire Jackson family moved to Los Angeles, California where they proceeded to become international stars. In 1969, Diana Ross presented the Jackson 5 to the public which was officially launched as the next big Motown act. The group’s first four singles became number one hits is the US. They were as follows: “I want you back”, “ABC”, “The love you save” and “I’ll be there”. The Jackson 5 recorded 14 albums and 4 solo albums were recorded by Michael through Motown.

The Jackson 5 stayed with Motown till 1976 and then they decided that they wanted more artistic freedom. They felt that they had to move ahead and so they signed with Epic. Since the group name Jackson 5 was owned by Motown, it was reverted back to “The Jacksons” as they were called during their early days. Brother Jermaine got married to Berry Gordy’s daughter and he preferred to remain with Motown for a full time, solo career. Randy, the youngest brother joined Jermaine’s place. The Jacksons made a total of 6 albums between the year 1976 and 1984. They have a number of hit records. This includes “Enjoy yourself” and “Show you the way to Go” (1976), “Find me a girl” (1977), “Blame it on the Boggie” (1978), “Shake Your Body” (1979), “Can you feel it” and “Heartbreak Hotel” (1980) and “Torture” and “State of shock” (1984).

In 1977 Michael made his first musical film debut called “The Wiz”. Michael starred in this film, along with Diana Ross played the lead role of Dorothy. It was during this period; Michael met Quincy Jones, the music producer for the film, “Wiz” who later went ahead to produce Michael’s three most acclaimed solo albums. They are : “Off the wall”, “Thriller” and “Bad”. Michael’s 1979 album titled, “Off the wall” was a worldwide success. In 1982 Michael released the “Thriller” album which was considered as the largest selling album of all time. “It produced 7 top 10 hit singles and broke more records. It went on to sell over 50 million copies worldwide. Michael began to use music video as the medium to promote his singles from the Album. The “Billie Jean” music video, was released in order to promote thriller. It became the first video by a black artist to be aired on MTV. Michael worked with the best directors and produces for the making of the musical video hit song “Billie Jean”. He used the latest technology with special effects for it. At that time “Thrill” was considered as the world’s best selling home video. The three music videos ( Billie Jean, Thriller and Beat it) released from the album because three of MTV’S most significant video’s in history.

In 1983 Michael performed his signature moonwalk for the first time on the “Motown 25 year’s anniversary show. This performance alone made the ladies excited and loads of youngsters started to practice that particulate step. In 1984 Michael won 8 Grammy awards in one particular night. He was awarded for his work on “Thrill” album and for his work on the narrative for the “ET story book”. It was in the year 1994 when Michael got married to Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley. But Michael divorced Lisa in 1996. He got married the second time and this time it was Debbie Rowe who was a nurse. Michael had met her during his treatment of his skin pigment disorder.

Although so many allegations and settlements took place in Michael’s life, yet Michael’s personal life is still considered to be a mystery for his fans and people worldwide. However, Michael’s contribution to the musical world is irreplaceable. Even today, Michael’s chart busters are being played in all leading discs and his presence is still being made all over the world.

Jackson died on June 25, 2009, after suffering from cardiac arrest. Before his death, Jackson had reportedly been administered drugs such as propofol and lorazepam.
