Symptoms of oral thrush
Oral thrush is one infection which can be pretty troublesome for most people and can result in many annoying symptoms. Oral thrush is caused by overgrowth of a form of Candida yeast in the body. Though mostly Candida Albicans is responsible for thrush, other forms of the Candida yeast may also be responsible. The number of this micro organism increases responding to a weak immune system or the decreasing number of the friendly bacteria in the body which may be attributed to long doses of certain drugs or antibiotics.
While adults may suffer from vaginal thrush or penile thrush babies mostly suffer from oral thrush. The symptoms of oral thrush in babies include white patches which are visible on the tongue and on the inside surface of the mouth. These patches have a red lining and the surface underneath them may bleed if the white patches are removed forcibly. Many babies may also have as sore mouth and some may even have difficulty in sucking which may be irritating for the babies as well as the parents. The first symptom of oral thrush in babies is when the baby cries or is irritated during breastfeeding or drinking milk from the bottle. If a baby has a nappy rash which cannot be cured by usual treatments then that is also a symptom of thrush.
Adults also have the same white patches in their mouth which may also be seen on the tongue, on the throat, palate and inside the cheeks. They may have difficulty in eating and chewing. Some people may have rashes at the corners of mouth and also on the inner lip. The symptoms may even be accompanied by a low-grade fever and mild discomfort in some case of oral thrush. It is important that one visit a doctor before starting on any medicine as more severe symptoms may be due to some other infection.
If a person is diabetic, on antibiotics or suffering from weakened immunity due to some disease then they may develop certain complications due to oral thrush as in such case the infection may spread to the digestive tract and also the throat. Thrush is easily curable if proper treatment is taken which include antifungal creams and some gels which can be applied on the infected areas. Oral thrush symptoms can be easily noticed and once it is done the infected person should begin with the treatment. Also some home remedies work wonders for curing oral thrush.
