Snails are basically of two types and they are land snails and aquatic or water snails. If you have a pet snail then you must know as to what snails eat. But in order to decide the food for it firstly, it would be vital to know as to whether it is land snail or water snail. This is because the eating habits of both of them are different. And once when you are sure as to your snail is the water snail then you must go to a pet store and find out and bring the food that exactly the water snail would eat. It is important to note that the water snail is an herbivorous creature.

It mainly thrives on algae which grow on your fish bowl naturally. If you are putting it in a small pond which has your favorite plants then you must know that the larger snails will eat them up in a few days time. Thus, if you really want the plants to remain as they are then arrange for a new pond or bowl for the snail. Snails also eat certain micro organisms that naturally occur in the environment. Snails are also fond of apples and carrots. You may even feed the fish food to your snail. But remember, whatever you want to feed the snail, put it in the bowl or tank 2 days prior to the feeding day. This is because the snail eats that only when the food completely settles and partly decays. If you are afraid that the snail that is going to reproduce will have more than one off spring then what you can do is decrease the amount of food that you normally feed to your pet. This will help you to retain the number of snails that you desire.
