What is my ideal body weight

Ideal weight is weight of person that will help the person to lead a healthier life. It should be too much or too less. There are many things that to be taken care of if you want to find out your ideal weight such as muscle-fat ratio, age, sex, height and bone density. Some people say that to calculate how much you should weigh, Body Mass Index (BMI) can be beneficial. However, some people find it wrong as it does not take muscle mass into account. They say that waist-hip ratio is superior over the BMI way of calculating the appropriate weight.

The ideal weight of person to person may differ. The surroundings affect us in making the decision of the right weight. It your family members are obese you will not feel like losing weight but if you are surrounded by fashion models you will find your ideal weight too low. The number of obese people in UK or USA is far more than that in Netherland. So a Dutch person will aim for a lower weight than people in UK and USA.

BMI is a very simple measurement as compared to waist-hip ratio. It doesn’t take account of the chest, hip or waist measurements. For example a 100 meter sprinter may have the same BMI as compared to a obese person of same height. In this case the according to the BMI criteria the obese person will be much healthier than the athlete.

Waist-hip ratio is the ratio of the circumference of the waist to that of the hips. A male WHR should be less than 0.9 and in the case of female it should be 0.8. People who have a lower WHR are less likely to get cardiovascular diseases. They are also more fertile than that of people with higher WHR.
