Why does a sneeze feel good?

When one has allergies or one is feeling cold, one can go on sneezing resulting in a runny nose. When a person sneezes, his eyes close and face muscles contract. When a sneeze comes, one gets exhausted. Sneezing feels good as it is an act of releasing. Some people hate sneezing. A sound is made when sneezing.

The biological reason of sneezing is irritation and collection of bacteria in the respiratory tract. This irritation may be caused by allergens like pollen, dust, and pets and also by some non-allergens. The body then expels these nasty particles – germs and mucous through the nasal passage in the form of a sneeze. Sneezing is body’s self defense mechanism against the built up of harmful bacteria and particles. It gives satisfaction and a feeling of comfort having thrown out the irritation causing agents. It propels air from the nose dispersing bacteria in the air. Sneezing clears the respiratory tract thereby keeping the lungs healthy. Thus, one feels better after sneezing with no more mucous. Sneeze can also be caused by tree pollen and weeds or infections by public places with bacterial infections.

One should always have a handkerchief when sneezing. One should never sneeze on others or directly in the air, as there are chances of transferring harmful bacteria to others, thereby resulting in spread of infection. Usually, if a person sneezes, those close to him also start sneezing. Thus, using a hanky is important. Sometimes, the sneezing can go on and one can run out of tissues.
