Why is it difficult for many people to see a meteor shower?
Meteor shower means the objects falling from the sky in large quantities. These showers can be observed during some specific times in the year, as during this time some comets or other elements are passing from very near of the earth and the meteor particles may fall on earth in large quantity.
In summer, it is difficult to see these kind of process, as the day is long and nights are short. So, people have less time for watching the sky. But as autumn or the fall season arrives, we get a reasonable time to watch the night sky and so the meteor showers.
The other reason for difficulty in observing the meteor showers, is the sky conditions. If the sky is covered with clouds then the meteor shower may get blocked from reaching the earth by these clouds. In this case, the weaker particles may get absorbed in the clouds and the heavier ones can only reach the layer below the clouds. So only few individual meteors can be seen coming down from the sky.
The place from where the showers are being observed is also a major point which influences the visibility of the meteor showers. The places which are nearer to the place from the comet’s path, the showers will be visible more clearly and also in the large quantities. But as we go farther from these places, the visibility becomes weaker.
For example the showers named as Lyrids, comes over in the ecliptic orbit, once every 60 years. It is clearly visible from the Northern Hemisphere of the earth.
